My Supernatural Soundtrack

My Supernatural Soundtrack
Brothers

Has there ever been a moment, maybe in passing, when you heard a song that maybe reminded you of one or both of our Winchesters? Maybe a particular episode, or a season or even the series itself? I know I have. Maybe it's that obsessive nature in me, where I cannot go without some how, some way or another, bringing everything back around to Supernatural. Some people think that's the case. I don't. or maybe I do.

Every now and again I come across a song that reminds me of SPN in someway or another. And every now and again I might share one or two, lyrics included, and occasionally an explanation. Sometimes I can't really explain.

Occasionally I'm going to throw up a song that doesn't look like it belongs in Supernatural at all, but that's okay because this is MY SPN Soundtrack.
===================

Now this first one, just kind of embodies the boys. The very, kind of essence, of Supernatural, and after Kansas' "Carry on Wayward Son" I'd say this should definitely be the un/official theme song to the series. Just read the lyrics and tell me you don't agree.

"Brothers of the Road" - The Allman Brothers' Band

Silent shadows of the night
Faded with the morning light
We just wrote another song
Maybe a word or two is wrong

There's so much that could be said
It's hard to write it in a line
But when the final word is read
Maybe something could be said

For all the brothers of the road
Just like you, we bear a heavy load
Been through hell and back again
If we don't lose we're bound to win

Somehow they gave it all a name
Just like a southern hurricane
We play our music like a storm
They say a brand new sound was born

We're all brothers of the road
Just like you, we bear a heavy load
Been through hell and back again
If we don't lose we're bound to win

Some of us fell along the way
We came together, not too proud to pray
But the music must go on
So there's no one left out there all alone

We're just brothers of the road
Casting shadows in the night
Big wheels rolling on and on
But everything's gonna be all right
================================

Sam and Dean are two brothers on the road and they do carry a heavy load, especially in the fourth and fifth season. The world practically rest on them. And along the way they've lost friends, family, other hunters: Ellen, Jo, their father. They lost Adam before they got to know him. But the music goes on. they go on. they pick up and continue.

The refrain and last two verses if they're not the life of a hunter, hell, then you tell me what is.

We're all brothers of the road
Just like you, we bear a heavy load
Been through hell and back again
If we don't lose we're bound to win

Some of us fell along the way
We came together, not too proud to pray
But the music must go on
So there's no one left out there all alone

We're just brothers of the road
Casting shadows in the night
Big wheels rolling on and on
But everything's gonna be all right

I think these definitely tell the story of the fourth and fifth season as well.

-We're all brothers of the road/ Just like you, we bear a heavy load
Brothers of the road. I think is pretty self explanatory. These boys live on the road. And they bear a heavy burden with the seals and the Apocalypse just around the corner. Not to mention the burdens they each feel individually. Dean is told he must stop the Apocalypse. Sam feels it is up to him to do this because Dean isn't strong enough. It's a tremendous weight.

-Through Hell and Back again
Dean has literally been through hell and Sam in his own right went through some form of it when Dean died.

-Some of us fell along the way
They've definitely lost people on this hellish journey. First their father. Then each other, though this was rectified in some way each time. They lost Ellen and Jo. Castiel was gone for a little while. Let's not forget Adam. He didn't do much, but he was the brother they found out they had too late to help him.

-But the music must go on/ So there's no one left out there all alone
But they keep on going, because there are people out there that need them, even if they don't know it. The millions of millions of people. And they can't just leave them.

-We're just brothers of the road/ Casting shadows in the night/ Big wheels rolling on and on/ But everything's gonna be all right
Like previously stated, they are literally brothers and practically live on the road. that can be a literal interpretation. No one knows, no one sees them. They're like shadows. that's all you see of them. In the Impala just going on, because they have to believe that in the end, everything is gonna be all right.

----------------------------------------

That's just my interpretation. my way of making it fit Supernatural. I think it's an excellent song.

  1. I know you posted this a while ago, but I totally agree with your interpretation of the song. I think it's perfect for SPN!
